The short version: we collect what's needed to run your inspections and generate your reports, we don't sell any of it, and you can get it all deleted by emailing mike@stepsventures.com.
Who we are
InspectAI is a property inspection product operated by Steps Ventures LLC. It includes this website, the API behind it, and the InspectAI iOS app. This policy covers all three.
What we collect
- Account information. Your name, email address, company name, and a password. Passwords are stored hashed, never in plain text.
- Inspection content you capture. Photos, audio recordings, LiDAR and 3D room scans, notes, and checklist entries from your inspections.
- Client information in your reports. Reports can include your clients' names and property addresses. You enter this data, and you're responsible for having your client's permission to use it.
- Payment information. Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number. We keep your subscription status and Stripe customer ID.
- Cookies and sessions. We use a session cookie to keep you signed in. If analytics is turned on, Google Analytics 4 sets its standard cookies to measure page visits. Analytics is off unless we've explicitly enabled it on the server.
How we use it
- Generating your reports. Photos, audio, and notes from an inspection are processed by Google Gemini, an AI model, to draft report narratives. That's the core of the product.
- Storing your data. Inspection media and report data are stored in Google Cloud Storage and our database on Google Cloud, in the United States. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest.
- Billing. Stripe processes your subscription payments.
- Running the service. Sessions keep you signed in. Server logs help us fix problems.
Who we share it with
We don't sell your data. We share it only with the services that make the product work:
- Google. Gemini for AI report generation and Google Cloud for hosting and storage.
- Stripe. Payment processing.
- People you choose. When you share a report link, whoever holds that link can view that report. Links are unique and unguessable, and you control who gets them.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data and inspection content while your account is active, so your report history stays available to you. If you cancel, your data stays in place so you can come back, unless you ask us to delete it.
Deleting your data
Email mike@stepsventures.com from your account email and ask. We'll delete your account, your inspection media, and your reports, and confirm when it's done. You can also ask for a copy of your data first.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and note the change on this page.
